Plant the Seed

I wish I could remember the whole story, and I bet if I dig back through old journals, I’d find it. Twenty-one years later, it’s foggy. But the summer between my junior and senior year of high school, I went to FCA Leadership camp with a friend because I was compelled to start an FCA at our school.

When we met my senior year, rarely more than ten people come each week. It was small and I remember being often discouraged by it. I knew my friend would lead it his senior year, but after that, I had no idea what would become of it.

Fast forward…I’d forgotten about all of this until few months ago. I was curious to know if it fizzled out, stopped and then started again, or kept going. Well, coming to find out, it’s still going strong. Twenty-one years later.

There have been several circumstances that I’ve found myself in, and have felt like the least qualified person for the job. I mean, when I had the idea to start FCA, I was an athlete, but not a star by any means. And I was shy, and definitely not popular.

When I recently learned that the FCA is bearing fruit from my mustard seed, the Lord reminded me of a few important things.

I don’t know what’s transpired over the last twenty-one years in the lives of the student athletes that went through the DHS FCA. But I was encouraged to hear that the mustard seed planted by a shy field hockey player/runner has been watered by others, and that God has given growth (1 Cor 3:5-9).

I needed those reminders, do you? And I wonder, what is one of your stories like this?
