The Deceptive Tendrils of Psychiatry
“You can engage in something not realizing you’re advocating or supporting falsehood.”
If you or someone you know has ever been labeled with a psychiatric label (ADD, ADHD, PTSD, Bipolar I or II, etc.), or given medication for any of these, or for anxiety or depression, etc., please set aside some time to watch this video, and the ones to follow.
The ideas that undergird the psychiatric system are like tendrils, reaching into the nooks and crannies of our culture – affecting EVERYTHING.
It is important that Christians understand that the psychiatric system is built on deception (along with most other systems in our culture). The evolutionary *theory* is just one tenet of false doctrine that comes out of the false religion of secular (anti-God) humanism, and the psychiatric system is built on it.
This should come as no surprise!
Even when you reject Christ, in your God-given, image-bearing nature, you WILL attempt to make sense of the very real experience of weakness and suffering that every human experiences, but because it is apart from Christ, it will lead you AND others AWAY from Christ, not toward dependence upon Him, which is what the Lord desires of every person.
Theories and systems built upon this reality are what dominate our culture, and sadly, even the Church. It shouldn’t be so! But, often, we don’t realize what it is that we’ve believed.
We need to move from ignorance to understanding (Php. 1:9-11). This will involve humility – the willingness to look something straight in the face and consider if we have believed teaching that opposes Christ and His Word. Repentance will be needed for many of us. What a gift it is to have the *privilege* to boldly approach the throne of grace with confidence in our time of need, to receive mercy and grace (Heb. 4:12)! I, too, have needed to repent over the years for things I ignorantly believed (and will need to do so until I die!), and I’m thankful for faithful friends, pastors, and teachers who have helped me see and have graciously led me straight to Christ. It is never easy to admit when you’ve been wrong, but it is pleasing to the Lord, and an opportunity to cast ourselves on Him in humility.
Praise God, the Christian life is one of constant renewal. Because of the effects of sin, we are born deceived, and we need the grace of God to see and understand this and to turn our hearts to Christ. In Him alone are all the treasures of knowledge (Col 2:3)! He is the only true source of hope and salvation, and help in our weakness and suffering. It is through Him that we can rightly interpret the issues of life.
However, once we’re in Christ, all of the deception we’ve believed doesn’t magically go away! We need to learn to recognize the arguments (lies) raised against the knowledge of God, take them captive, and destroy them – replacing them with truth – found in God’s Word (2 Cor. 10:5). We must practice discernment (Heb. 5:14). Often, we need pastors and more mature Christians to teach us and help us see–God has given them to us (Eph. 4:11; Titus 2). Again, this can be a hard reality for us to accept, but we must!
Over the course of our lives in Christ, it is a constant demonstration of His preserving, covenantal love that the Lord sheds light as we read and study His Word, brings conviction by the Holy Spirit, and allows us to think more like Him *and* become more like Christ as we submit ourselves to the authority of *His* Word, a local church, and maintain godly iron-sharpening-iron friendships. He truly renews and transforms us!
Please note that Daniel Berger II is a pastor. This is significant – it is part of his God-given role to expose false teaching, to protect the flock against wolves, and to preach the Word, pointing people to CHRIST. For too long, Christians have submitted themselves to godless authorities rather than pastors –often bypassing their pastors and going online or to a medical doctor to find help for issues of the soul. I praise God for him, my own pastors, and other pastors I know who take their roles seriously, and are willing to courageously tell the truth no matter the cost. They are not perfect, but they are seeking the Lord and TREASURE His Word, believing it is inspired, sufficient, inerrant, and infallible. Their faith is in the Living Word, Christ and His written Word, not in worldly authorities and their words.
Blane told me the other night that he (Dr. Berger) is doing one of the most important works in Christianity today. As I mentioned earlier, teaching that opposes Christ has tendrils that have reached into every nook and cranny of our culture, including the church.
May many, many more people know and experience Christ’s salvation –the only Cure for their souls. And, in our daily lives, may we let His authority and authoritative Word seep into every nook and cranny of life. He truly is THE most Wonderful Counselor, FULL of wisdom and grace.
